In my recent “Faith Matters” post, I expanded on a topic I discussed in a recent Council on Foreign Relations conference call on Friday with a group of religious leaders and scholars from around the country: as a follow-up to a 2006 article I wrote in Foreign Affairs–“God’s Country?”–about the politics of Protestant religion in the United States, we discussed the evolving role of evangelicals in American politics.
A recording of that call is now posted online: you may listen to the full podcast here.
While the call was eminently less incendiary than an Edwards sermon and perhaps more dispassionate than something the Boy Orator of the Platte would’ve delivered , I very much enjoyed speaking with the participants, and their questions continue to help me think about the role of American religion in politics and foreign policy–which is, I think, a very important topic, and one I like to focus on here at the blog.
