The American Interest is looking to hire a senior writer to help expand the coverage of Walter Russell Mead’s widely read blog, Via Meadia.
The Via Meadia website is committed to developing and advocating 21st century solutions for important social problems and promoting the transformation of the United States from late stage industrial society to an early stage information society. We are looking for talented and ambitious candidates with exceptional analytical and writing skills and some domestic policy experience or expertise to join our team and to help us develop a new kind of journalistic enterprise in a time of rapid change. If you’ve worked 2-3 years at a think tank or on Capitol Hill, and would like to branch out into journalism, we want to hear from you.
You will be writing several unbylined short posts each day conforming to a general style and analytical framework set by Walter Mead. Beyond that, you will help us strategize and implement expanded coverage into priority areas that are likely to drive important political and social developments in the coming months and years. You will also help in the training and supervision of junior staff and interns as we continue to expand our team and our coverage.
Our company’s core values include mentoring and employee development; this is a job for someone who wants to grow and help others learn and who has a deep commitment to serious online journalism as a vital part of democratic discourse. We are interested in people who are passionate about understanding the world and sharing that understanding with readers in clear and compelling prose.
This is a full-time position based in Washington DC. Please send us a resume plus two clips or an academic writing sample to firstname.lastname@example.org.
